Our K9s have been doing incredible work in February and March! The K9s that O.U.R. funds are trained as Electronic Storage Device (ESD) Detection K9s by @JordanDetectionK9. These incredible dogs help alert on pieces of evidence that are often hidden and small in size. The K9s can sniff out the unique chemical scent of the devices and help law enforcement discover evidence faster than by human search alone. In Colorado, K9 ASCII assisted a neighboring police department on a search warrant at a local residence. ASCII indicated an area during the search, where the suspect’s device was found to contain child sexual abuse material (CSAM). She also identified several other devices hidden in drawers. Her assistance was vital to locating the hidden devices throughout the search warrant. We are so grateful to hear of her work! When K9 Taylor isn’t regularly visiting schools or civic institutions, he is winning first place medals in The United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) competition! The team was so excited to hear that in March, K9 Taylor competed in the USPCA Region 1 field trials for electronic detection K9s, and scored 199.67 out of 200! He and his handler took FIRST place in the National competition. We are so proud of our K9s, knowing that their rigorous training and skillset are at the forefront of electronic detection! Over in Washington, K9 Chip assisted in a child sexual abuse material investigation. During the warrant, K9 Chip alerted on a cell phone and a thumb drive belonging to the suspect that was missed during the original search. Having these skilled K9s is imperative to law enforcement, as they can find things that we humans can’t, with our senses alone. Our K9s continue to make us incredibly proud of the honorable work they are doing with law enforcement on the field. O.U.R. is eager to continue to expand the K9 program throughout the year 2021, and aid law enforcement in the continual fight against child sex trafficking.
