O.U.R.’s Aftercare Team was recently referred to a 22-year-old woman named “Sofia” by a government agency in South America. She had been trafficked by an U.S. man and had become addicted to the drugs he gave her. The man has since been arrested, and Sofia has worked hard to overcome her addiction by attending rehab and a weekly support group. Our team met with Sofia and asked her how we could help her reach her goals. She told us that she needed $75 to pay off her outstanding lunch money fees, so she could finally receive her high school diploma. The school withheld her diploma until this balance was paid. We immediately paid off the debt, and she is now learning English and preparing to take college entrance exams. It is important to our aftercare team members to take the time to listen to survivors and identify their specific needs to help them progress on their healing journeys. It was only $75 that empowered her to continue in her dreams. We want you to know these stories because donors sometimes say they wish they could give more. Every amount helps change lives as we empower survivors in their individual needs and dreams.
