When “Cristina” was a young teenager, she ran away from home. She was facing so much abuse at home that she decided she would rather leave. Since she had nowhere else to go, Cristina stayed on people’s couches who would let her in. Many of the hosts would sexually assault and exploit her in order for her to be allowed to stay. A few years later Cristina was rescued from her situation by local law enforcement and placed in one of O.U.R.’s partnering aftercare homes in South America, where the O.U.R. Aftercare team has visited and gotten to know Cristina well. Just as she turned 18, a member of the community offered to adopt her. She was incredibly excited to be a part of this loving family. O.U.R. Aftercare continues to support Cristina and provide follow-up care as she works hard to reach her hopes and dreams. She has a desire to finish high school, go to college, and pursue a career as a lawyer. This has been more of a challenge due to the pandemic this past year, however, your donations helped us provide Cristina with access to online vocational training and classes and a laptop. We can’t wait to see what she accomplishes!
