“Mother Martha” (pictured here) lived through 20 years of many personal challenges. Even though she experienced the injustice of slavery in the Mediterranean, she has always fought for the freedom of others. She selflessly helped so many other women escape from being exploited. Last month, she was able to return home to her home country in East Africa as a free woman. O.U.R. Aftercare met her at the airport and helped her set up her new home. We were excited to introduce her to our aftercare partners in East Africa, and once they met her she became family for life. Mother Martha is a modern hero. This is one of several stories of freedom from the month of January 2021. In our newest blog post, we have outlined 31 stories, events, and partnerships that happened in the first 31 days of this year. These stories include a 7-year-old and 17-year-old being rescued in South Asia, 28 women returning home to family after being forced into domestic servitude in the Mediterranean, new aftercare partners in the U.S., 15 survivors starting vocational training in South America, and much more. We are incredibly grateful to our supporters and donors who made this work possible.
