In Iowa, internet crimes against children have increased 1,200% since 2008 (KWWL.com). To better investigate these crimes, local law enforcement agencies in Iowa have teamed up with K9 Mousse, an electronic detection dog sponsored by O.U.R. K9 Mousse is specially trained to identify the scent of chemicals used in electronic storage devices such as SIM cards, thumb drives, hard drives, etc. K9 Mousse is used approximately 3 times a week visiting different agencies. Recently K9 Mousse helped on a search warrant that led to the arrest of a predator! "A terabyte of storage can hold 200-300,000 images, and if you think about that, each image [can be] a victim," said Todd Jordan, who has trained about 45 electronic detection K9s, including K9 Mousse. Additionally, law enforcement often bring the dogs when interviewing children or conducting search warrants where children are present. The dogs can help calm children and provide emotional support during difficult interviews. Visit the link in our profile for the full KWWL article.
