“Mateo” told us that when he was being sexually exploited and trafficked, he did not know what he wanted in life. “I did not understand how valuable I am as a human being,” he said. Mateo was rescued in 2014 in one of O.U.R.’s first operations in South America. The O.U.R. Ops Team went undercover and worked with the police to help free Mateo and others. After that day, Mateo went to our partnering aftercare home and attended hair and makeup school. After earning his license, he worked at a high-end salon. Mateo is a very talented hairstylist and makeup artist. O.U.R. Aftercare has continued to walk alongside Mateo throughout the years. “O.U.R. was the one who gave me the opportunity to rescue myself and give me the help to be a free person. A new person,” he said. Mateo is now starting his own business. This is a recent picture of Mateo doing someone’s hair for their wedding day.
