Last Friday, two survivors flew home to West Africa. These two women had pursued an employment opportunity in the Mediterranean, but upon arrival, the employers turned on them and took their passports. These women, sadly, were abused and trafficked during the following weeks. These women escaped their situations, but because the traffickers had stolen their passports, they were put in prison for having no documents. As they spent weeks in prison leading up to the holidays, they were heartbroken they would not see their children for the holidays. O.U.R. Aftercare helps many women in this prison navigate the necessary processes and paperwork to be released. Fortunately, these women were successfully released at an earlier date than first expected. When one of the women first found out she was going to be able to make it home for the holidays, she said, “The song of freedom is the only gift I need.” She couldn’t wait to spend the holidays with her children singing songs of praise and joy. This story is an example of your donations in action. Thank you for helping reunite families and supporting survivors’ journeys across the world.
